Antique Sampler Reproduction for cross stitch.
Stitch count: 263w x 205h.
The original sampler was stitched on 45 count linen.
Our model has been worked on 36 count 'Hogbristle Linen' by Fox & Rabbit Designs using Needlepoint Inc Silks.
Odile's sampler is worked in cross stitch, mainly using one strand over two linen threads. The text at the bottom of the sampler is worked in cross stitch over one linen thread.
Odile Therese Rauscent was born 9 March 1832 in Court-Saint-Etienne, a small municipality about 50 kms south-east of Brussels in Belgium. She died 6 January 1904 aged 71. She was one of six children. Her father was a farmer. Odile went on to have eight children of her own after her marriage to Charles Henri Fosse in 1855.
Odile attended boarding school at Pensionnat de Liberchies, about 30 kms south of where she was born. She stitched her cross stitch sampler in 1844 and her darning sampler around 1846. The last digit of the year is hard to make out as the sampler had been stapled to a board at that point.
We hope you enjoy stitching this sampler and will join The Crewel Gobelin SAL, commencing October 2021 aiming for a October 2022 finish!
